Let me first off state that i got screwed when i bought this house! I bought an older manufactured home. i think a 1972. It still has the original furnace. When we bought it the previous owner said that the pilot was "hard to light".home inspector
It sounds like a gas valve problem to me. But the gas valve is possibly suffering from the same rust and crap you had in the pilot line. I would have someone who is completely comfortable doing this for you, open up the line at the inlet, and remove the
