Is a Maule MXT-7 a better starter aircraft than a Cessna 172?

I'm majoring in Aviation at Henderson State University, and the aircraft I will be using for getting my Private Pilot License are a Maule MXT-7-160 and MXT-7-180A. I noticed that most universities start you out with a Cessna 172. Would the 172 be a better
It doesn't really matter which aircraft you start out with. Chances are you will be flying a 172 at some point in your career. Some see value in being very familiar with the platform, however I think it is more valuable to have diversity in your training.
